the Summary Court Jurisdiction I will deal briefly with the
reasons against it by the Bar as set forth in the Attorney
General's memorandum. I must firstly observe that whilst it
purports to contain the views of nine members of the Bar, only
five of that number ever seriously practise or appear in the
Courts, unless it be to defend prisoners on the nomination of
the Chief Justice at Criminal Sessions. The allegation therefore
in the menordadum "that the Bar has never been more numerous
than at present" although perhaps true in fact, has little or
no practical bearing on the relative position numerically of
counsel and solicitors in Court.
Again the memorandum says "The small cusès which
the proposal would throw into the Summary Court are the very
onses which would be most suitable for Junior members of the
..............and the chief opportunity of getting into
practice would be denied to the Junior members of the Bar".
I have already pointed out that all the ouses whether large or
BET....
The small in Original Jurisdiction are not concentrated in five
Counsel and "the opportunity of getting into practios" is already
denied, if they desire it and certainly some do not, to the
non militant member of the Bar. The transfer therefore of centair
small actions to the Summary Court oould only therefore affect
the five Counsel concerned.
5.
Another objection is put forward that the transfer

of Original actions of any magitude must blook the work of the Summary Court, and delay the prompt trial of small actions. Now
it has been my fate for some twelve months to do the work of the
Summary Court whilst the Pužane Judge has been engaged in
hearing a very lengthy action in Original Jurisdiction, which Aging to a previous decision I was debarred from trying. Thie
experience enables me to state that there is ample time available for the disposal of such cases as the proposed soreme would entail Every case is disposed of without delay in the Summary Court. A large proportion of them are settled after a day for the heating
